Motodrome offer this superb right hand drive 1973 registered VW Type 2 bay window Devon Caravette 4-berth camper, finished in it’s original colour, Pastel White, and known as ‘Marigold’. Built in late 1972 and UK registered Feb 1973, this is one of the restyled T2b models with high front indicators/small badge/wraparound bumpers, commonly referred to as a late bay. It was destined for UK export for conversion by Devon as a Caravette, so had the underfloor belly plates to accommodate the pop top conversion as well as the usual UK options such as MPH speedo. Great specification includes full pop up roof, twin seats in the cab and seating for 4 (the front of the 2 rear seats can face forwards if required) in the rear, and the seats fold into a double bed, twin hammock-style beds in the roof (these are only really suitable for children), curtains, 12v/240v sockets and mains hookup, USB ports, gas cooker (not tested), cool box, table with floor pole, and plenty of storage. Also comes with a selection of utensils. Also fitted with a fairly modern stereo, which sounds good. Externally standard with the exception of a roof rack over the cab, and a full length sidestep for the sliding door. Fitted with a RemTec 2.0 engine with single Weber carb, and I can confirm it has particularly spritely performance. We have a huge history file for this one, with a very large stack of bills and old MOT’s going back to 1990, but the odometer reading of 34000 is incorrect as it’s been ‘round the clock’ – mileage is actually 134000. The Remtec reconditioned engine was fitted in 2012 when it was showing around 19000m, so it has done around 15000 miles, and seems to be in really rude health. Previous owners have clearly looked after this one as it’s in great condition. I’ve had a few Bay Window campers therough my hands over the years, and this is probably the best one I’ve had – it will stand any inspection and I don’t think you’ll find better. Whilst it’s RFL and MOT exempt, it’s been continuously MOT’d and has a current one to April 2026, with no advisories.
