PORSCHE 911 -996 - £20,000
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 11th September on Thursday the 11th of September. BackgroundThe fifth generation of Porsche’s 911 model debuted in 1997, marking a significant change for the company. Though visually similar to the outgoing 993, the new car had little in common with its predecessors, aside from the 911 name and rear engine placement. The 996 was the very first 911 to feature a new chassis since the air-cooled original was launched in 1964. Not content with completely revising the monocoque, Porsche also introduced the first water-cooled 911 engine range. The new 3.4-litre flat-six M96 power unit produced 296PS and could propel the Carrera from rest to 100km/h (62mph) in just five seconds, with a top speed of 280km/h (174mph). Only the front suspension, the multi-link rear suspension and the 6-speed gearbox from the 993 were carried over. An entirely new bodyshell and interior underlined that this was a 911 for the new millennium. The CarThis 911 Carrera CSR, finished in black over a lovely black and tartan interior, has been meticulously maintained by all its owners. It is a well kept example of RPM Technik’s retro take on the 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera, upgraded through their CSR programme (build number CSR-020) in 2017 at a cost exceeding £20,000. It is powered by a modified version of the 3.4-litre engine, producing 296bhp and 258lb/ft of torque, coupled to an automatic transmission with an AMG paddle shift conversion and a Wavetrac Torsen limited-slip differential. As part of the CSR conversion, RPM Technik upgraded the engine with an improved intermediate shaft bearing, a low temperature thermostat, a third radiator kit and a deep sump extension. On the exterior, GT3 side skirts and a front bumper have been installed, along with a painted carbonfibre ducktail spoiler, a bespoke stainless steel exhaust and 18" Fuchs alloy wheels. These are finished in gloss black with polished lips, framing red Porsche-branded brake callipers and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. Inside, the cabin features black leather and grey, black and red tartan upholstery, with embossed Porsche crests on the front headrests. It also includes a black Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel and handbrake lever and carbonfibre CSR-branded door sill plate inserts. Notable options include an electric sunroof, aluminium-effect dials, cruise-control, a PCM media system with navigation, Porsche Stability Management, automatic air-conditioning and electrically adjustable front seats with three-position driver memory. The car comes with its original owners manuals, two keys, satellite navigation discs and toolkit, along with the original spare wheel and a large history folder containing maintenance records dating back to 2001. Its most recent maintenance was carried out in June 2025 at 111,351 miles by Sports and Classic Ltd, which included new inner and outer driveshaft gaiters, an engine oil and filter change, and a new sump plug seal. This 996 generation Porsche 911 Carrera CSR is an intriguing retro take on the iconic model by RPM Technik, boasting upgraded performance and a custom paddle shift setup. With its renowned reliability and engaging driving experience, it could be a fun addition to an existing Porsche Collection or a tastefully modified coupé for someone seeking a 911 with a difference.
