ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER CLOUD II - £28,000

The Silver Cloud II was introduced in 1959 replacing the Silver Cloud I. Little changed externally but it now had a 6.2 litre, V8 engine which pushed the weight to 2.11 tonnes. Performance, however, was greatly improved and the top speed was now raised to 114mph. The main improvements though were in acceleration and torque. Power steering became standard and electrically operated windows were now available as an option. The basic architecture of the Silver Cloud II did not change between 1959 and 1963 but there were numerous minor changes implemented, notable among them a succession of improvements to the ventilation system. Interior changes in 1961 included the adoption of blue instrument lighting, the introduction of a combined indicator/headlamp flasher switch and of a handbrake warming light.

This delightful Rolls-Royce was originally registered on 10th April 1961. Finished in the striking colour combination of Pacific Green over Smoke Green which is complemented by beige leather trim. Considerable time and expense has been put into this Silver Cloud II resulting in a very presentable and highly useable example. A copy of the original build sheets are with the history file, which can only be described as substantial. In 1992/3 considerable work was carried out on the bodywork and interior. Further work was carried out on the bodywork in 2020, along with a full service, with all the oils being replaced, the brake system was refurbished, new twin fuel pumps fitted, new anti-roll bar links, a new battery and LED headlights. In 2021 the chrome was refurbished, new front coil springs fitted, along with new front shock absorbers and a small service was carried out. In 2022 another small service was carried out. A replacement laminated screen was fitted in 2023, a small service was carried out and new springs were fitted to the drivers' seat, along with wax oiling treatment carried out to the underside. Having been owned by the vendor for the last five years, he has had the work carried out by respected marque specialist West Hoathly Garage for which there are invoices in the file totalling some £35,195.41. The remit being a car that presented very well and was reliable. Completion of the RREC Silver Ghost Rally to Northumbria in 2023 in exemplary fashion confirmed the mission was accomplished successfully. Consigned by Stewart Banks
