Background:The R107 generation of Mercedes-Benz SLs enjoyed an extraordinarily long production run from 1971 to 1989 and has rightly earned its place as one of the most iconic luxury convertibles of its era. Combining understated elegance with robust mechanicals, the 500 SL variant offered the most powerful engine available to European buyers at the time, featuring a smooth 5-litre V8 paired to a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
