1965 JAGUAR E-TYPE ROADSTER - £POA

The 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster is one of the most iconic and celebrated sports cars of the 20th century, combining cutting-edge engineering with timeless design. Here’s the story and historical significance behind this legendary vehicle: Origins of the Jaguar E-Type The Jaguar E-Type (also known as the XK-E in North America) was introduced in 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a sensation, praised for its stunning looks, advanced engineering, and competitive pricing. Enzo Ferrari is famously quoted as calling it “the most beautiful car ever made.” The E-Type was a direct descendant of Jaguar’s racing pedigree, especially the D-Type, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times in the 1950s. The E-Type brought race car technology to the road, including: Monocoque construction (unusual at the time) Disc brakes on all four wheels Independent rear suspension Aerodynamic design influenced by aircraft engineering The 4.2-Litre Series 1 (1964–1967) The 1965 E-Type Roadster belongs to the Series 1 generation but features key upgrades that define the 4.2-litre variant, introduced in 1964. Here’s what made the 4.2 special: Engine Upgrade Displacement increased from 3.8 to 4.2 litres Power remained similar (265 hp), but torque improved significantly, making the car more tractable and easier to drive at low speeds 0–60 mph in under 7 seconds — exceptional for its time Improved Interior and Comfort All-synchromesh 4-speed gearbox replaced the Moss box from earlier models More supportive seats, improved electrical system, and a redesigned dashboard layout Still maintained the classic toggle switches and aircraft-style aesthetics Design and Styling Retained the covered headlights, small taillights above the bumper, and the long, low hood Remains highly prized for its pure, original Series 1 styling, as later models introduced more regulation-driven changes Why It Mattered The E-Type 4.2 Roadster in 1965 hit a sweet spot of beauty, performance, and usability. It was as fast as a Ferrari or Aston Martin but cost a fraction of the price. It also captured the spirit of the 1960s — sleek, confident, and modern. Cultural Impact Owned by celebrities and style icons like Steve McQueen, Brigitte Bardot, and George Harrison Appeared in numerous films and TV shows, reinforcing its place in pop culture Symbol of British automotive excellence during the golden era of motoring Legacy Today, the 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster is one of the most collectible classic cars. Its value continues to appreciate, especially for well-maintained or original examples. It represents a high point in design, engineering, and the post-war optimism of British car manufacturing. This outstanding example 1965 Jaguar E Type 42.
