1975 GARELLI JUNIOR TIGER CROSS - £4,995

FOR SALE An iconic UK Garelli Junior Tiger Cross MkII in fabulous condition. MODEL HISTORY In 1912, Italian engineer Adalberto Garelli designed his own two-stroke engine and achieved national and international success. Garelli sports mopeds were imported into Britain by Agrati Sales (UK) Ltd and the first models were the Rekord and Tiger Cross being one of the fastest at the time reaching speeds of 60mph. The MkII was introduced in 1975 and prominent differences from the MkI included thinner tank side decals, black engine casings, ‘fantail’ engine cooling fins, thinner grips to replace the melon type, slightly altered seat and rear shock absorbers. Pogo front forks from the later MkI’s were carried over to the MkII. Of all the bike manufacturers that formed 1970’s Sports Moped phenomenon, the Garelli’s were up on the podium alongside the Yamaha ‘Fizzy’ FS1-E’s as the archetypal Sixteener specials. EQUIPMENT Stainless steel Inox front and rear mudguards, Pogo front forks, Domino brake and clutch levers, toolbox cubby, anti-slip vinyl seat with pillion strap, CEV Tipo 105 headlamp with guard, cold start plunger, rear CEV tail-light with reflector, pedal reflectors, CEV electromagnetic horn, engine cut-out button, fuel valve, Huret speedometer, steering lock. EXTERIOR Finished to a wonderful standard, the light and sturdy double cradle tubular steel frame has been powder coated and the distinctive yellow and black Garelli fuel tank is unmarked displaying correct thinner Garelli decals as well the Tiger and Quality Award Italy 1972 stickers. Bright chrome work and stainless steel make this iconic sports moped a real show piece. Restored with careful attention to detail including correct colour to the headlamp bowl, chain guard and toolkit cubby. A real ‘sixteener special’. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The Garelli two-stroke 49cc air cooled engine is quoted producing 6.5bhp and capable of speeds on the flat of 60mph making it one of the most powerful and fastest sports mopeds of its time. All components are fully detailed and the Dell’Orto carburettor with cold start plunger remains fitted. The ‘fantail’ engine cooling fins denote a MkII with the engine number clearly visible and the Silenziatori Lafranconi Frankfurter exhaust remains fitted with the logo crystal clear and a mirror chrome finish. The bike employs a four-speed foot change transmission by chain drive. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES Factory spoked wheels display a mirror chrome finish as do the wheel hubs. 2.50-19 front and 2.75 -17 rear knobbly tyres are fitted. Drum brakes front and rear require a firm squeeze and stamp to provide adequate braking! HISTORY FILE This fantastic Garelli Tiger Junior Cross MkII Moped was UK registered from new with a registration date of the 24th February 1975. Incredibly, there are just two recorded keepers from new. The previous owner purchased the bike some years ago where it has since been displayed in his mancave showroom amongst an impressive collection of Yamaha ‘Fizzy’s’, Gilera’s, Garelli’s and several classic cars. An original handbook is included in the history file. This collector’s bike has only now been made available by the downsizing of the owner’s collection and although fully operational a full recommission is advised for regular use.
