Ford’s Thunderbird was launched in 1955 as a direct response to Chevrolet’s Corvette, quickly outselling its more expensive competitor by 24:1 thanks to its elegant styling, refined V8 performance, and well-appointed creature comforts. Today, the Thunderbird is widely recognised as a 'Blue Oval icon' and is highly sought after by collectors worldwide. This particular example was built in 1956, featuring the 312 cubic inch V8 paired with a 3-speed manual gearbox, along with power brakes and power steering for effortless cruising. It underwent a meticulous frame-off restoration in Italy by Stefano Landi around 2009 and has covered just 4,000 miles since completion. Every aspect of the restoration was executed to the highest standard, with comprehensive photographic records documenting the rebuild of the engine and transmission, including new pistons, valves, and associated components. The restoration also included full attention to brakes, electrics, wiring, battery, chrome, lights, carpets, and upholstery. The body was stripped, restored, and repainted in the original factory Bermuda Blue, while the white soft top, wheels, tyres, suspension with new dampers, fuel tank, exhaust system, radiator, and cooling system were all replaced or reconditioned. Every element was finished to preserve the authenticity and specification of the original car, ensuring that it remains as true to factory as possible. Following completion, the car was awarded an ASI Certificate 'Gold Plate' by the Italian Historic Car Association, confirming its historical accuracy and quality of restoration. Since being acquired by an esteemed collector in 2013, it has been carefully stored alongside other exceptional cars in a temperature-controlled environment, preserving its outstanding condition. Fabulous to drive and brimming with period charm, this Thunderbird remains ready to be enjoyed as a wonderful slice of Americana.
