This Ford Consul Cortina De Luxe 1200 saloon has an interesting history file containing letters and photographs, a few receipts and old MoT certificates going back to the early 1980s, club publications, a road book and programme from a 1999 classic road rally, and the latest V5C.The car was first registered on 1st February 1963, and the odometer reads 73,938 miles. The V5C records 4 former keepers – two of whom are the first owner, who bought the car twice.The story of its early years is told in an accompanying newspaper article from 1984, the original bill of sale, and a notice typed by the first owner in 1987. From these, we learn that 345 FAC was purchased from Ford Main Dealers Chambers of Sutton Coldfield on 6th February 1963. After a honeymoon trip in September of that year to Switzerland, the car was used daily for business and pleasure until it was traded in for a Cortina Super 1500cc. The first owner managed to purchase the car again in 1982 and embarked on an extensive restoration, including new piston rings, timing chain, etc., and a bodywork restoration re-spray in 1986.
