Dealer Accessories: Fiat Voxson Kyalami radio, Fiat 127 rubber floor mats. EXTERIOR The 127 Sport 70HP, a powerful personality and a rare sight with only a handful of survivors today. Finished in Racing Orange, (Code 255), this Italian supermini is brash, very loud and a big attraction on the Fiat Motor Club (GB) stand where it is often exhibited by its long-term enthusiast custodian. A feature in Practical Classics Magazine explains how memories of his first Fiat 127 Sport prompted Nigel Ford to complete this project started by the previous owner nearly 20 years ago! The aim was always to have a usable example that could be driven and displayed at events and as such the car presents beautifully but is not for a purist seeking an unrestored car, if such a thing exists! Imperfections are visible in the paintwork and evidence of previous repairs apparent, but all do little to qualm the excitement and thrill of seeing a genuine unicorn! Correct features such as the sports door mirrors, Saint Gobain glass and even the white, red, orange coloured rear lens screws remain fitted. 127 Sport and 70HP decals combined with front and rear spoilers and bonnet air scoop leave no doubt this will be tremendous fun! INTERIOR The black interior interior is beautifully designed and equipped with anatomically shaped wrapround seats covered in black stainproof velours and the coloured seat outlines match the cars exterior colour. This colour coded piping has cracked in areas but the fact the seats are original material is incredible and genuine replacement material with piping is included. Pre-formed looped pile carpeting and the door panels in black leather cloth with lower half trimmed in carpeting are all in great condition with the floor carpeting protected by genuine Fiat 127 rubber floor mats. The black laminated roof covering has no tears and the boot area is clean with a genuine Fiat tool kit. All controls, gauges and switchgear function except for the tailgate wash/wiper which is not fitted. The multicoloured stalks are still fitted and the heater fan works on both settings. The Fiat Voxson Kyalami radio has been discreetly modernised to pair remotely to Bluetooth devices. Wonderful. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The free-revving 1049cc engine has all the correct Sport features such as the Abarth cylinder head, twin-choke carburettor, larger diameter induction valves, four branch manifold and Abarth twin outlet exhaust to produce 70HP, some 20HP more than the standard Fiat 127! This results is a top speed of 100MPH and 0-60MPH of 13.9 seconds with a glorious rasp from the exhaust. Having been fully overhauled by Classic & Modern Engine Services in June 2021 with accompanying invoice, the car performs fabulously. As standard on the Sport, improved engine mountings and a stiffer front anti-roll bar encourage you to stir quickly through the 4-speed gearbox controlled by a sporting gear leaver knob. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES Pressed steel type sports wheels with the correct red Fiat centre caps have been refurbished to an amateur level and are shod in 155/70 R13 Pirelli Cinturato tyres with ample tread. The front discs and rear drums with a with an Idrovac brake booster to a fair job of stopping the car but fall short of modern day braking standards. HISTORY FILE This rare, genuine and UK supplied Fiat 127 Sport is one of a handful of survivors and was registered new on the 20th June 1979. With only five former keepers and well known to the Fiat Motor Club (GB), this example has been enthusiast owned. Cherished by its former keeper, Mr Ford, it has frequented many shows, stared in online videos and graced the front cover of Parliamo, the official magazine of the Fiat Motor Club. A two page feature in Practical Classics magazine traces Mr Fords fascination with this model stirred by memories of his first Fiat 127 Sport when a teenager and his quest to find one decades later. His hard work gained him entry into the Practical Classics Restorer of the Year 2020! Complete with a matching bright orange A4 lever arch file briming with history, all handbooks manuals and brochures are included so that you can witness firsthand the expenditure lavished on this Italian hot hatch. Display plates for shows and a full set of keys with leather Fiat key fob are present. MOT October 2026, HPI Clear.
