ASTON MARTIN LAGONDA - £Auction
The first eight chassis numbers of the Aston Martin Lagonda no longer exist, deemed to be jigs, mock-ups or prototypes. William Towns is said to have acquired chassis number nine which was car number one, and this cars chassis number is 3011 (number 11) therefore it would be the third car built for the UK/European marketplace. Bearing in mind Aston Martin were still developing the Lagonda when production ended in 1990, this car could almost be referred to as a prototype having been built in 1978 and first registered 1st April 1979.
One of just 195 right hand drive cars, this car was too early for the digital display which was proving unreliable for Aston Martin at the time thus the analogue display was fitted which aids this car provenance but also means fewer problems and today is more desirable due to its rarity. It still retains some of the soft touch switches and doors which, at the time of consignment, were all working correctly and of course still dons the glorious 'moon roof', a first of its time. Boasting the unique rear suspension system with Horizontal Di-On Tube with four trailing arms, this car also has the self-levelling system. Built by Aston Martins Bert Nash, we are told all body panels are aluminium including bonnet and boot and is largely original. Presented in a subtle black coachwork with a contrasting blood red leather trim which is original.
A regular at Goodwood events, this car has a wonderful history and a very good file to accompany it, the last owner recording all maintenance in his tenure since 2019 which includes a recommissioning in 2019/2020. The vendor states it drives beautifully with plenty of power, the engine and drive train performing as it should. Presented with new Turbo Speed tyres, working air conditioning and a period Alpine sound system, our vendor states every switch and dial is working (at time of consignment) which shows the love this vehicle has been shown over years by the careful and loving ownership of the very few custodians.
Offered with an MoT certificate until March 2026 and new batteries fitted earlier this year. A Lagonda 'wedge' is a significant part of automotive history and one that is certainly worth celebrating with only 638 made production. In our vendor's words 'a true appreciating classic, a wonder to drive and enjoy and you will not find another like this with such a history'. Representing a fine investment and a joy to own, you only live once! Consigned by Mathew Priddy
